Insulating Glass Spacer Zeolite Desiccant

Zeolite molecular sieves work as high-efficiency desiccants and adsorbents for insulating glass or DVH (Double Hermetic Glass) spacers. They trap moisture and residual organic contaminants to preserve clear, flawless glass surfaces. And also balance internal and external pressure differences that extreme temperature fluctuations create inside insulating glass units.

Why Use Desiccants In Insulating Glass Spacers

Every insulating glass unit (IGU) relies on a spacer, or space bar, as its core structural framework. The spacer supports and separates the two glass panes of a window. Manufacturers craft spacers from plastic, metal or foam materials and bond them with sealants to form fully sealed air cavities. These sealed barriers block outside air and moisture from penetrating the gap between glass panes.
Most insulating glass cavities fill with ambient air or argon gas, but tiny traces of moisture always linger during the sealing process. For this reason, workers fill spacers with insulating glass desiccant. The desiccant absorbs residual moisture and organic impurities in the cavity’s air or inert gas. This prevents internal glass fogging and mildew growth, and maintains the IGU’s thermal insulation performance.

Zeolite Desiccant For Aluminum Spacers

Aluminum spacers are a mainstream component in modern insulating glass units. They deliver precise verticality, strong deformation resistance and ultra-smooth flat surfaces, so they deliver reliable moisture and air tightness for sealed glass cavities.

Fabricated from aluminum alloy, aluminum spacers double as dedicated storage vessels for zeolite molecular sieves. Small perforations on the spacers let molecular sieves make direct contact with air inside the insulating glass and continuously adsorb residual moisture.

The molecular sieves used in aluminum spacers are usually micro spheres. These molecular sieves are loaded into aluminum spacers during IGU production to sustain consistent drying performance and eliminate glass fogging and frost formation.

Zeolite Desiccant For Warm Edge Spacers

Warm edge spacers serve as an advanced, innovative solution for high-performance insulating glass units. They feature low thermal conductivity, superior condensation resistance and enhanced fire resistance, making them ideal for cold climate regions and projects with strict energy-saving standards.

The molecular sieves used in warm edge spacers are zeolite activated powers, spheres or pellets, most of which are pre-filled and some are integrally formed, to keep the insulating glass drying, thermal resistant and structurally stable.

Zeolite Molecular Sieves For Insulating Glass Desiccant

3A zeolite is the premium and industry-standard desiccant for insulating glass applications. It delivers highly selective water adsorption and never damages or interferes with sealing materials. It also offers high adsorption capacity and long-term service stability.

4A zeolite also functions as an insulating glass desiccant, though it is not the preferred choice. While it adsorbs moisture at a faster rate, it also readily absorbs carbon dioxide and organic substances. This unintended adsorption causes sealant failure and shortens the overall service life of insulating glass units.
